Holycombe whichford

On the whole a great site for real campers. Jul 22, by Chris Mclaren Verified Review. The facilities were clean and never busy and we enjoyed the pick your own spot on arrival. Enjoyed a drink and a meal at The Norman Knight as well as some local treats cooked ourselves. This is a lovely place to stay. Jul 19, by Pippa. The only sounds were the distant church bells and the sheep in the nearby fields.

The site is beautiful and spacious, the facilities clean and tidy. The owners are attentive, friendly and helpful. The location is perfect. This is exactly what camping should be. We will be back. Jul 17, by Tom Howgate Verified Review. Lovely countryside and pretty Cotswold towns to visit as well as an intriguing stone circle in the middle of the site.

The local pub serves terrific food. Fires allowed, always a bonus, and basic but clean facilities. Me and our Frank love it and will return! We camped at Holycombe in late June and it was every bit as beautiful and peaceful as described. We camped at the top near the stone circle and was able to have our van right next to the tent, which was convenient. There's a water tap near the big old trailer by the entrance and we cooked on our gas stove - there was a helpful bench where we camped.

There are also two compost toilets and they were all clean. We walked to the stone circles at Rollright, which was an 8 mile round trip, worth seeing. Although we mainly walked on the roads, which could be a bit hairy!

Maybe there is a cross-country route, which would be much more pleasant. Jul 4, by Paula Sutcliffe Verified Review. I was very impressed with the pitch layout individual pitches mown into some long grass and parking arrangements. Facilities are really good, kitchen sadly closed during COVID but fridge, freezer, microwave and most importantly kettle available for use , toilets and warm showers.

Free fire pit hire and logs for sale meant we couldn't resist having a few campfires and cooking over an open fire. Great location too with the pub only a 5 min walk away Norman Knight, booking recommended on a weekend. Only thing I could say is maybe a bit too relaxed, not clear that you literally just arrive and pitch up providing you've already paid online.

Maybe some better signage or email communication to make it clearer. Jun 28, by Thomas Reynolds Verified Review. Why I've given this 5 stars: The pitches are lovely, marked out by long meadowy grass inbetween them which gives you the feeling of caming in a field. The fact that this is on a former historic castle site, with a moat, and a more recent stone circle make a lovely setting.

The showers, toilets, facilities were fine for a 3 night stay. It's camping not a hotel. A fridge and freezer are available which was ideal for refreezing my ice packs.

Fire pits are allowed, bring your own or borrow one of theirs free with your own wood or theirs for a small charge. The local area is so rural, we did a 10 mile circular walk taking in the Rollwright Stones and passed through just 2 small villages. The local Norman Knight was fantastic, friendly with good food, only 10 minute walk away. What you could do better but still worth 5 stars: Better arrivals instructions so that people know they won't be greeted and may find their own pitch.

Update your info signs around the site and in the toilets! Some are just faded and easily missed such as the one for not using the hookup pitches without booking.

You said hi as you passed but maybe introduce yourself as the owner or ask if there's anything you can do as you could have just been another camper passing by for all we knew. Tips: Earplugs for the church bells, eye masks for the early morning sun. There were some nice soft earplugs provided by the kitchen Local OS map for the local stunning walks.

Prebook the Norman Knight for a table at the weekend. Be wary of how far your voice travels at night. Enjoy the stars! Jun 14, by Geraint Jenkins Verified Review.

The team at Holycombe will always go the extra mile to ensure your stay is the best it can be and nothing is too much effort for them. The site is beautifully well looked after and has everything you could need, and if by chance it isn't there, someone will help you find what you need. I would love to recommend Yurt Yasmin to anyone thinking about staying here and we would definitely love to come back. Jun 12, by Bradley Verified Review. An utterly peaceful haven - with fantastic walks all around.

Jun 7, by Alison Partridge Verified Review. The cabin is a beautiful and cosy little place, with a great bed and just enough comforts cooker, fridge, kettle, sink, electricity to make it truly relaxing. The site was clean and lush with nature and having a gastro-pub within walking distance made it even more appealing.

The quiet rule ensured that we slept really well. We are more used to tent camping so as a first foray into glamping this was the perfect introduction. Jun 4, by Bruce Douglas Verified Review. What more could anyone want? This was an idyllic get-away for my wife and I. We stayed only one night after traveling the day from Suffolk to visit relatives in the Cotswolds and Holycombe was just a nice, peaceful and relaxing way to end the day.

All the campers on the site respected the rules and were equally quite. The church bells that rang every 15 minutes throughout the night were the only annoying aspect of our stay; however, we understand this has nothing to do with the the owners. We did come prepared with earplugs, but if you wake up in the night, it is difficult to get back to sleep because of the bells.

In any case, the bells would not stop us from returning to Holycombe because the beautiful and relaxed setting more than make up for the annoying bells. May 28, by GollyOlly Verified Review.

Really enjoyed. May 17, by Tana Lucker Verified Review. What a gem of a place. Just a 2 hour drive from central London, this quiet hideaway is the perfect place to relax in the countryside. We went cycling in the area, there's a pub close by, the people are all super friendly and respectful. Shout out to Swampy for welcoming us so kindly. Also they don't pounce on you with a list of rules like other places do.

So chill We cannot wait to go back! Apr 19, by Lora Schellenberg Verified Review. Site beautiful and peaceful. We were there first day out of lockdown and it felt very special. Great place to see the stars, hear the birds, and walk through the woods. Village pub is great and there are lovely walks close by. Apr 16, by rice. Response from Cotswolds Camping at Holycombe Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review. It was lovely to meet you all and you were wonderful first out of lockdown customers to stay here!

You quickly acclimatise to the church bells. Close enough amenities in nearby towns for those things you forget! Wyatts Garden Centre is gorgeous as well, with beautiful plants and delicious food. Apr 16, by Hannah Chatfield Verified Review. Visited here as a newbie to the camping scene and absolutely loved it.

Very informal arrivals process which was great, pretty much just pulled up and pitched up! Flush toilet was very clean, compost toilets were really really fine, and showers were clean and hot. Other campers on the site all welcoming, kind and quiet, so a perfect site for a relaxing weekend! Found some lovely walks on foot from the camp site as well as a pub, and there's an Aldi not too far away as well. Highly recommended and we will be back!

Hope you come again soon :. Good vibes and sooo peaceful. The facilities were spot on, clean and quirkily set in a little wooded area. Brilliantly situated for the Rollright Stones, the Hook Norton brewery and the local pub which was just 5 minutes walk away.

Response from Cotswolds Camping at Holycombe Hi Patsy Thanks for leaving such a lovely review and for the suggestion of having a photo of us there.

Great idea! I'm sorry you didn't get to meet any of us. We were all here and around and about but we tend to leave people to themselves as much as possible. Thanks for coming and I am so glad you enjoyed yourself.

Nice picturesque setting in cotwolds with nearby attractions. Aug 31, by Natalie Christakis Verified Review. Response from Cotswolds Camping at Holycombe Thanks for taking the time to review us and highlighting our increased cleaning. We really appreciate the feedback and glad you would come again :. A beautiful place to wander and then venture up to the woods or along to the excellent pub. Aug 21, by Teresa Ellis. Lovely little campsite, unique being able to camp around a stone circle!

Didn't feel too busy or crowded. Showers were hot and compost toilets clean. Great to have a fridge and freezer which were available along with a kettle and toaster, and I think a microwave even though the kitchen was shut.

Easy to walk from the campsite either to the pub in the village or further afield we made it to the gin distillery! Note that while campers are not allowed to make noise after 11pm, this does not apply to the church bells! The church is about metres from the campsite and the bells seem to chime every 15 minutes, 24 hours a day I stopped hearing it quite quickly but it kept some of our party awake! Also the sign from the road could be a bit clearer. Aug 17, by Fiona Verified Review.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review. I am glad you enjoyed it here and that you also used the local pub and gin distillery. Sadly we can do nothing about the church bells. As you say some people hardly notice and other people get kept awake! Thank you so much for coming. Perfect place to camp if you want peace and quiet. Even quite enjoyed the tuneful sounds of the church bells. The place had everything we could wish for: showers, loos, fire pits and logs, access to fridge and freezer, somewhere to charge your phone etc.

Plenty to do nearby. We enjoyed a lovely walk from Long Compton up to the Rollright stones and a lovely visit to Batsford Arboretum. Would definitely stay again. Aug 14, by Caroline Goringe Verified Review.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a lovely review. I am so happy that you enjoyed it here and thank you so much for coming! Lovely place and facility. Picturesque and tranquil - except for the clock in the village.

Do NOT forget earplugs!! This should be on the home page, not buried in the FAQs. As a family of three we were very comfortable. All basic needs were met. We will definitely go back. It was nice to have the stones and moat and orchard and labyrinth.

They had fire baskets to borrow and bags of wood. Great walks nearby through Whichford Wood. We look forward to returning. If you want to party - go somewhere else. We have been running weekend residentials for 15 years and still have some of the same customers we began with. Many say there is no other place like Holycombe. Our inspiration for Holycombe was distilled from a multitude of life-experiences and places. Please bring everything you need to cook, wash up and cater for yourselves. We also advise for your own protection, as there is an increased risk using shared facilities , to bring your own sanitising spray to spray door knobs, loo handles, and taps before use.

Please also observe social distancing in queues for facilities and follow frequent hand-washing procedures. Obviously if you have any suspicion you are not well, please stay at home. This is so different than the relaxed way we like to be, but we hope for your co-operation, and I'm sure we'll all have a great time!

With plenty to explore in the vicinity, this is an excellent place to base yourselves on your camping adventure. Our beautiful five-acre camp site is situated where a Norman castle once stood, the legacy of which is the splendid water-filled moat, ducks, moor hens, and Canada geese.

Before the Normans, we know there was a Roman settlement as a Roman conduit leads from the wood to the moat.
