Who is lighthouse family

In the wake of an economic recession in the UK, British record labels were, at the time, primarily signing artists with the goal of short-term profit. In contrast, Barlow, in The Times, expected that the band could last for "ten years or more".

Peden's hiring was described as a "big spend", and music videos were filmed overseas in Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Still, this did not translate to considerable single or album sales within ; it wasn't until "Lifted" was re-released in that it reached the top five on the UK Singles Chart, and Ocean Drive, which had been deleted, rebounded and was certified six-times platinum by the end of Its follow-up, "Postcards from Heaven", achieved similar sales status in In , The Lighthouse Family reformed.

The band accounced tour details for , as well as a new album coming up. Tunde, who by now had learned to internalise his emotions — to, in his words, "not over-analyse, just accept things" — was nevertheless wary of him. I was used to having just a mother — and a mother, I felt, was all I needed. Obasanjo, he says, was quite the disciplinarian. He kept on about the importance of education, so the last thing I was ever going to tell him was that I wanted to become a singer.

That wouldn't have gone down well at all. Was he afraid of him? He may have been strict, but he was charming too, and charismatic. He also accepted me as one of his own. The family setup was an unusual one for western sensibilities perhaps, but, Tunde suggests, not so at home.

Obasanjo, like all husbands with multiple wives, had one main wife who lived with him. The others, Tunde's mother among them, he would see intermittently, perhaps once a month. He didn't even tell his friends at school. In the late s, Tunde moved back to the UK to study accountancy. He wasn't much taken with the course, but it earned him an important commodity — his parents' pride. It was here that he met the musician Paul Tucker, with whom he formed the Lighthouse Family.

Success came quickly, and it was just as the band reached their commercial peak that his stepfather was thrown into prison. There was also the death of Tucker's dad and both of them went on to focus on solo projects, causing things to fizzle out after Whatever Gets You Through The Day. However, the reunion and new music was not for lack of trying: Tucker and Baiyewu did make several attempts over the years to get back together, but it was never quite right. They tried in , in , and , sometimes returning to perform live but never recapturing the musical magic, so to speak.

Tucker describes a "sort of friction" between them whenever they got back in the studio, despite their other interactions being fine. We'd get in a room and sing other people's songs, and then I'd try to ease a new one in and boom. Straight away, it's back to the friction," he reveals.

Both of us were like, we don't have to do this and if it's going to be grief, I'm not doing it. On what changed when they finally decided to start working on this new album in — at the request of their original record label and former manager — Tucker says they were both different, although he is unable to say how. He adds: "You could point out all those things we said, but when the universe is running its own thing, it doesn't matter how these rest points happen, what the reasons are.

You just have to take a break and that's what happened with us.
