While she was missing, everyone assumed Bill was responsible for taking her life. In this episode, Jason becomes involved with the Fellowship of the Sun, a cult-like group that intends to tie a vampire to a cross and let him burn up when the sun rises. Then, Bill's vampire ex Lorena Krasiki shows up looking for a more barbaric version of her former beau than the soft-hearted, human-loving Bill we know.
Finally, a woman named Maryann Forrester hypnotizes the whole town into engaging in widespread debauchery before attempting to sacrifice the local shape-shifter - Sookie's manager Sam. So many important revelations and dramatic scenes occur, it would be difficult to proceed with the series without watching this episode. He reveals to Bill that Lorena wants Sookie out of the picture, and that the only way to save her is for Bill to join his forces.
Meanwhile, Sookie is introduced to a hunky new werewolf named Alcide, whom Eric has appointed as her bodyguard. Ultimately, Bill concedes to the king's demand for his allegiance; however, Lorena's disgust with Russell's decision to call off Sookie's abduction suggests that things are far from over.
As the chemistry heats up between Sookie and Alcide, Bill engages in a rage-fueled moment of intimacy with Lorena. This whole episode is full of cliffhangers and raises a great deal of questions about the complicated relationship between Sookie and Bill. Russell takes the life of a news anchor during a live broadcast and declares that humans should indeed be afraid of vampires because they are superior beings and have the power to eat both them and their children should they please.
Meanwhile, Bill indulges in a little too much of Sookie's blood and enters a dream state where he meets Claudine Crane. Sookie's mysterious powers are tentatively explained and we finally get some insight into exactly who and what she is.
Gran bites the dust, and after Sookie discovers her grandmother in a pool of her own blood, her life gets really rough, really fast. As if she doesn't have enough to deal with, her pesky telepathic abilities force her to listen as everyone in town silently blames her for Gran's demise.
Things only go further downhill when her brother Jason also blames her, and after Gran's funeral ends in disaster, Sookie takes comfort in the arms of her new Vampire beau Bill. The couple finally sleeps together, and Sookie lets Bill get a taste of her blood for the first time.
Having grown tired of immortality and suffering from Hep-V, Bill asks Sookie to help him end his life so he can finally be at peace. He suggests that Sookie use her fae powers to end him, effectively draining them and allowing her to move on as an ordinary human.
Sookie struggles with this decision, unsure as to whether she wants to give up her powers and also lose Bill. Each character faces some life-altering decision that they wrestle with throughout this series finale, but by the end, their ultimate fates are revealed. Fans of Sookie and Eric's relationship, collectively known as " Sooric ," will remember this episode as the one in which the pair shared their first kiss. It's also the one where Bill finally explains Sookie's powers to her, revealing that she is part faerie.
